Cliff Dawson has taken the challenge to participate in the 2006 Great Victorian Bike Ride. He will be riding with a couple of friends and his son Ashley. It is something that he has wanted to do for some time and this year will see him "togging up" in Saward Dawson blue.
To Make a Difference
Whilst Cliff has wanted to participate in the event for some years, he wants to use the opportunity to support a great cause. Last year, we wrote about a former staff member, Peter Scarborough, who has relocated he and his family to Halmahera, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia to assist the many displaced persons in that region arising from internal conflicts and natural disasters.
Peter and his wife Esther (a registered Nurse), together with a local indigenous team, have established health clinics, facilities for orphans and those with disabilities and leprosy and established fresh water wells. The Scarboroughs are involved in establishing a permanent medical centre (including a 16 bed ward) in this extremely remote area of Indonesia.
Cliff has asked Saward Dawson staff and clients to sponsor his ride in an effort to support the great work that Peter and Esther are doing. They are are in need of additional funds to provide urgently needed medical supplies and equipment to allow them to continue to meet the day to day health needs of the people.
About the ride
The 2006 Great Victorian Bike Ride commences in Wangaratta on Saturday 25 November and for the next nine days winds it way over some 520 kms via Beechworth, Mt Beauty, Mansfield, Yea and culminates at Whittlesea on Sunday 3 December. The organisers are expecting over 4000 participants.
Peter Scarborough stays in close contact. The wonderful stories that he has to tell will make Cliff's ride all the more enjoyable. Donations can be organised by ringing our office on 9894 2500.
